Word Clocks

Word clocks read the time the way you'd say it out loud, in glowing letters instead of numbers. Where a normal clock face asks you to calculate — "the long hand is between the two and the three, so it must be twenty-something past" — a word clock simply spells it out: TEN PAST SIX. Four small dots in the corners fill in the exact minute, so the reading stays precise without ever needing digits.

Every LumosClock is hand-assembled in our workshop in the Netherlands, not pulled off a factory line. The front panel is cut from matte black acrylic with a soft, non-reflective finish, set behind a solid aluminium frame that keeps it flat and true for years. Inside, warm LEDs light only the words and dots that are needed at that moment, dimming automatically as the room goes dark and brightening again in daylight, so the display never fights with its surroundings.

You can tune the light itself: seven tones in total, from crisp white through warm white to five colours in between, adjusted with the four buttons on the side. No app, no Wi-Fi, no account to set up — the clock works the moment it's plugged in, and keeps time through a short power cut thanks to a small backup battery.

This collection holds every LumosClock currently in production: the English edition, the Italian edition (orologio a parole), and the Spanish edition (reloj de palabras). Each one is built to the same standard — a 46 × 38 cm matte black face, wall-mounted out of the box with a solid table stand available as an option — and differs only in the language it speaks.
